MICROSOFT OFFICE TUTOR: Take ownership of Word’s default font and margin settings
Posted on February 15th, 2010 by Eli Journals
You needn’t remain stuck with the default Times New Roman 12-point font and the default margin settings for new documents. Instead, make new documents open with your personally-selected font type and size, and with the margin settings that you want.
All you need to do is follow the simple steps outlined below:
- Launch Word and open a blank document.
- Open the Font Dialog Box by choosing Format | Font from the menu bar or pressing [Ctrl] D, and then set the appropriate Font parameters, as shown in Figure A.
- After your font looks the way you want it to, click the Default button in the Font Dialog Box.
- To apply your default settings, click the Yes button in the next dialog box.
- To change the default margin settings, open the Page Setup Dialog Box using File | Page Setup.
- Then, set the different margins the way you want them to be, and click on the Default button in the Page Setup Dialog Box.
- Click the Yes button in the dialog box that appears to apply your default settings. The next time you open a new document, it opens with the new font and margin settings you’ve selected.
